Regulatory Symposia
C:\>DIR Regional Regulatory Symposia
Building Communities of Practice Across Sectors and Jurisdictions
In-person, Regional Focus, Cross-Regulatory
The C:\>DIR Regional Regulatory Symposia are in-person convenings bringing together public authorities to advance dialogue on digital market regulation and strengthen collaboration across institutional and jurisdictional boundaries within a specific region. C:\>DIR aims to focus on the following regions: Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and Asia Pacific.
By convening central banks and financial regulators alongside data-protection, telecommunications, competition and other authorities, the Symposia highlight the need for coordination beyond traditional sectoral mandates.
Each Symposium is co-hosted with a regional anchor institution – typically a central bank, regulatory authority or regional body – and convenes over one or two days. The programme combines plenary sessions with smaller working groups on specific regional regulatory challenges, such as cross-border digital platforms, data-sharing arrangements or AI systems governance. Working groups intentionally mix institutional perspectives to identify coordination gaps and practical pathways forward.
Tailored to regional contexts, the Symposia reflect different institutional settings, market structures and policy priorities. Discussions address practical questions of coordination, capacity and institutional design, drawing on comparative experience within and beyond the region. Each Symposium draws on research and discussion papers tailored to regional priorities. Following the event, C:\>DIR prepares a concise, non-attributed synthesis of shared issues, insights and areas for action, shared with participants and disseminated to policymakers worldwide.
A core objective is the cultivation of durable regional communities of practice – networks of regulators who continue to collaborate, exchange knowledge and coordinate responses after the convening. Participants are encouraged to develop joint work plans or coordination frameworks, supported through ongoing engagement with C:\>DIR and its partners, namely the Regulator Knowledge Exchange.
The Symposia contribute to C:\>DIR’s broader aim of enabling regulatory innovation at pace and scale, with particular emphasis on elevating EMDE perspectives and ensuring regulatory approaches reflect diverse institutional experience.
